I recently posted this photo of Pacifica's latest hemp infused eye shadow palette and received a lot of questions about my opinion on hemp being added to cosmetics. I decided to research and write a blog post on the benefits of hemp being used in skincare, hair care, and makeup.
hemp oil is naturally moisturizing
hemp oil has humectant/moisturizing properties because it is high in omega 3 and omega 6 fatty acids. this is wonderful for many beauty products, from mascara to moisturizers!
may help to relieve eczema/atopic dermatitis
this study by the NCBI concluded that "Dietary hempseed oil caused significant changes in plasma fatty acid profiles and improved clinical symptoms of atopic dermatitis." this makes hemp oil a great addition to lotions and creams designed to treat eczema.
hemp oil is non-comedogenic
according to huna skin hemp oil is non comedogenic. this means it is highly unlikely for hemp oil to clog your pores, and cause blemishes. therefore beauty companies can add hemp oil to skin care and makeup products without fearing their customers will breakout.
hemp oil contains all 10 amino acids. protein building is an important role in several cosmetic products, for example in hair conditioners and nail strengtheners.
hemp oil contains vitamin e, carotene, and other antioxidant rich vitamins and minerals. antioxidants are anti-aging, therefore hemp oil may play a big part in anti-aging skin care products!
Please note I am not a medial professional or scientists, just a cosmetologist and makeup artist who loves to learn (and share what I learn!). have you tried adding hemp oil in your beauty routine? if you haven't, do you plan to add it? let me know in the comments below or on my instagram, @jordanartistry! thank you so much for reading and I hope you have a wonderful day!
