a professional makeup artist's must have beauty products of 2020

12/21/2020

well this year has been interesting to say the least. through all of the chaos, these are the products that have kept me feeling and looking my best. what are were your must have products for 2020? let me know in the comments below or on my instagram, @jordanartistry <3

makeup

I really focused on learning the art of eyebrows this year. with plenty of time,  I think I tried every Anastasia Beverly Hills brow product haha! my favorites from the collection are the brow definer &  brow wiz products.

skincare

this year I traded my $50+ facial oil to the derma e radiant glow face oil it contains jojoba, argan, and seabuckthorn oils. it leaves skin feeling nourished without the heaviness of traditional facial oils.

haircare

this year I fell in love with amika products, specifically their clarifying gel shampoo. cleansing and clarifying shampoos help detoxify and refresh your scalp and hair, but unfortunately it's not suitable for everyday use.

I personally recommend using clarifying shampoos when you feel that your hair and scalp needs a deep cleansing, for example after using heavy hairsprays and other styling products.

how to create more time for a beauty/self care routine in the morning

10/11/2020

rushing around in the morning? feel like you don't have the time to apply makeup or take a deep breath? I have been there. here are five ways to save much needed time in the morning!
Picture

set your alarm 10 minutes earlier

I know it’s pretty basic, but you can apply makeup, do yoga, spend quality time with your significant other, etc.  if you only had 10 extra minutes in the morning! don't risk your beauty sleep though ;)

avoid touching your phone

avoid look through your emails, endlessly scroll on instagram, getting lost in tik tok videos.

write out your to-do list the night before

do you get anxious and feel overwhelmed in the mornings? running around saying to yourself ‘what do I have to do today? don’t forget to do this and this and this…”
try writing out your to do list the night before, so you head into the day with a clear mind and plan :)

prepare ahead of time

prepare your breakfast, your outfits, your kids, your pets, your plants... whatever and who ever you have to take care of in the morning,  do whatever you can the night  or week before to prepare!

organize your space

lay out your products and brushes in an organized and efficient way. to read my organizational tips, read the article Life-Changing Ways to Tidy up Your Beauty Collection by BYRDIE.

9/15/2020

I'm not the biggest halloween fan, despite being a makeup artist, I'm not really the "costume" kind of person. I do love decorating though and I love seeing the cute things of Halloween. I also love changing my look up to fit the seasons. if you also want to incorporate some halloween spirit in your beauty routine, here are three super simple and cute ideas!

press on nails

Halloween press on nails are so easy and fun, just find your perfect set and glue them on! you can find custom made sets on etsy or order a basic set online.

new lip color

try out a new lip color such as black, bright red, or wine. this is so simple to do and can make your entire look a little more spooky.

fake spiders

do you know those cheap plastic spider rings? well turns out they are perfect hair accessories! just make a simple braid or twist in your hair and stick one around it.
here is a webbed look I did with them a few years back!

three ways to get your beauty routine ready for fall

8/25/2020

we all know summer 2020 did not go as planned. instead of being disappointed, let's focus on celebrating the beautiful one ahead. here are three tips for getting your beauty collection ready for the cooler months ahead!
Picture

start changing your skin care now

for many of us our skin is oily in the summer and more dry in the winter. fall is a great time to start transitioning your skincare products to fit the cooler weather. add more nourishing and hydrating products into your routine such as facial oils and overnight masks. starting in fall will help prevent your skin from becoming too dry, too late.

change your foundation shade if needed

sorry for the reminder, but your summer tan may be fading soon. throughout fall check to make sure your summer foundation shade matches your current skin tone.

 darker lip colors

in my opinion fall and winter are the best seasons to wear darker toned lip colors. I suggest pairing the look with a copper eyeshadow or a brown smokey eye... or just hire your makeup artist to ;)

hairstyling for all ethnicities.

6/11/2020

thanks to this beautiful movement, I've been thinking a lot about how the beauty/fashion industry can improve, and how I can help improve it.

within the past five years I believe tremendous growth has been made, for example shade ranges have expanded, multiple product launches designed for curly hair went mainstream, and women are being told to embrace their natural beauty...
but even with our progress, I still see a lot of improvements that need to be made. one thing in particular is education for upcoming stylists.
Picture
I wish there wasn't a division between “white” hairstylists and “black” hairstylists, but unfortunately not many stylists were educated in all hair textures in beauty school. In cosmetology school students learn hundreds of tasks, but they do not typically practice each of those tasks on different ethnicities, leaving stylists trying to find education and practice clients on their own after graduation. I was fortunate to be able educate myself on many different hair textures and learned different styling techniques, by reading and attending conferences...

as I grow in my career I am trying my best to learn all textures, curl patterns, and thermal tolerances, but it will take time for me to perfect my craft. Until then, I am referring my hairstyling clients to specialized natural hair artists to give business to other business owners who deserve prosperity for their dedication to learning and mastering their craft.

from the bottom of my heart I wish the specialties could merge together overnight. I truly believe, all women deserve an equal opportunity to sit in any stylist's chair that they choose, but like any service, I understand that some providers may be more specialized than others.

if anyone would like to offer styling advice, product recommendations, or thoughts on how can I help the cause for more equality in the beauty industry, please reach out, I would love to hear!

Jordan xx

I recently posted this photo of Pacifica's latest hemp infused eye shadow palette and received  a lot of questions about my opinion on hemp being added to cosmetics. I decided to research and write a blog post on the benefits of hemp being used in skincare, hair care, and makeup.
